Dumpster Diving (DD) Most bazaar finds

When dumpster diving, you may find interesting stuff as you salvage through the green and blue trash bins and any items people left at the void decks.

The most bazaar finds that I found was... a Live 11-inch Freshwater Stingray.

This is the sting ray that I found (now in my 3 ft tank)
It was found in a broken 3ft tank beside the rubbish chute and slightly hidden by some kids' clothes laid on top of the tank. (I suspect the owner wanted no one to notice the stingray) Initially, I was only interested in the kids' clothes until I noticed it inside. When I saw it was breathing, makes me wonder how can I rescue it. I initially wanted to release it in any pond or canals, but none is nearby (luckily as it might be a bad thing to do). So I decided to bring it home. I used a kids top to hold the tail and put it into a basket that was lying nearby. I carried the basket to my home.

Luckily, after the rough journey home and placing it into my 3 ft tank (without water customizing), it survived! I had to put a divider to ensure my bichir don't attack the stingray.

The DD sting ray with my bichir
Even though I have a 3 ft tank that can accumulate the string ray with my existing bichir, I decided to give it away as I don't provide live food to pets. All my pets feed on pellets. I was very selective about who I want to give the stingray to as I had to ensure the new owner can take care of it. There were many requests to take the stingray but I rejected them.  I managed to find a new owner (keeps stingrays as pets) for my stingray from Colin Lau. It is now happily living with other stingrays and feeding well. Take care of my stingray!

By far, this is my most bazaar DD find that I have and I was known for rescuing a live stingray in the freegan community in Singapore.

In case anyone wants to ask me why didn't I consider EATING (-_-) it, below are my reasons:
  • IT is alive. I do not wish to kill it.
  • I am a aquarium enthusiastic, so I prefer to keep aquarium pets alive.
  • I have eaten marine stingrays before but I have never heard of eating freshwater stingrays. I don't want to be the first.

Dr. Ang has mentioned in the presentation he has managed to keep his weight down with Dr. Jason Fung's advice.
